More and more healthcare professionals and patients are using unconventional practices, also called Non-Pharmacological Interventions (NPIs). These NPIs range from traditional biomedical solutions (such as drugs, implantable medical devices, surgery) to everyday consumer products. This presentation invites clinicians, patients and researchers to converge to a common paradigm (1) to assess the impact of these NPIs on health, quality of life and social participation and (2) their optimal modality of implementation.

This scientific, ethical and transparent approach will be a bulwark against misuse and abuse. But we must not expect everything from this approach. Science will never explain everything. There will always be an inherent part of the patient, the caregiver and their interaction in a given context.
